Collections in the University Archive
The main function of the University Archive is to house the written documents that are produced by the University’s administration. However, the archive is also home to various collections that it has gathered itself and received as donations. These collections are kept in the University Archive because they are closely connected to the official documentation.
They include seals, photographs, films, audio tapes and pamphlets. The private donations of scholars and students of the University are of particular importance to the University’s history. Donations of private collections, which can include diaries, lecture notes, letters, scripts, certificates or photos, offer future generations an impression of the lives and influences of individual members of the University and keep their memory alive.
The collections in the University Archive document over 270 years of German university history. This makes them a valuable source for research as they allow insights into circumstances that cannot be found in official documents.
