What is the degree program about?
The degree program Media Education is not a fundamentally independent degree program, but an additional qualification in the teaching degree program. This means that you can only study the course in the teaching degree program and there exclusively as a so-called „extension“ in addition to the first and second subject.
The extension subject Media Education is intended for students of all teaching professions and as an additional qualification for teachers of all school types. It is therefore organized in such a way that it can be completed by teachers alongside their professional activities.
-
About half of the courses are offered through vhb courses that are tutored. Thus, teachers already in the teaching profession also have the opportunity to study virtually. Individual courses can be used by all students to supplement or deepen their regular studies and by ready teachers of all school types for further training.
The extension study Media Education qualifies students to cope with school tasks in the media field such as
- Instruction of students in the sensible use of media
- Use of digital media in learning and teaching processes
- advising teachers, students and parents on media issues or
- supporting schools in the use of media in organizational processes.
The study is also a prerequisite for the media pedagogical-informational consultant digital education.
The part-time extension program in media education takes about four semesters and concludes with a state examination.
A good half of the course content is available in the form of virtual courses, which are tutored. The remaining courses are offered at the Chair of Education with a focus on media education (Prof. Kammerl) at FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg as online or face-to-face seminars. These are in particular practice-oriented events on media design, media education and media didactics.
At the center of the extension studies is a project seminar. Within the framework of such a seminar, each student must design his or her own teaching unit, which serves as the basis for the practical examination in the state examination.
