Mechanical engineering
Mechanical engineering (M.Sc.)
As a master’s graduate in mechanical engineering, numerous career opportunities open up in a wide range of industries, whether in the automotive industry, the aerospace sector or in energy supply. The master’s degree program in mechanical engineering offers you the opportunity to further deepen your expertise and specialize in a particular field. For this purpose, many colleges and universities in Germany and around the world offer you a choice of numerous study specializations, such as production and manufacturing technology, design and development, or regenerative energies. However, not only theoretical knowledge is imparted, but also practical experience is gained, be it through project or research work or through internships in companies. In this way, you will be optimally prepared for a successful career in mechanical engineering.

What is the degree program about?
The consecutive master’s degree program in mechanical engineering with a standard period of study of four semesters builds on the bachelor’s degree program. The aim of the master’s degree program is to provide you with in-depth engineering methods and knowledge as well as research-qualifying scientific working methods. The following fields of study are available for selection in the master’s degree program:
- General Mechanical Engineering (AMB)
- Manufacturing Technology (FT)
- Computer-aided product development (RPE)
- International Production Engineering and Management (IP)
-
he master’s degree program is open to above-average bachelor’s and diploma (FH) graduates and can be completed as a full-time program in 4 semesters or as a part-time program in 8 semesters.
In the first 3 (part-time: 6) semesters, students acquire competencies in various elective subjects in mechanical engineering and related engineering disciplines, taking into account current research results, of which they specialize in two areas. This also includes the preparation of a scientific
project with a presentation. There are four fields of study to choose from. The 4th semester (part-time: 7th-8th) includes the Master’s thesis, with which the students prove that they can work on a scientific problem independently and at the highest scientific level (ABMPO/TechFak § 32). Practical relevance and „employability“ are also ensured by a compulsory practical work experience.

Applicants will be evaluated on the following criteria:
- Secure knowledge in the subject-specific fundamentals
- Good knowledge in the field of a subject-specific specialization corresponding to a selectable field of study of the master’s program
- Description of a relevant subject-related project
- Knowledge of the relevant literature
- Positive prognosis based on increasing performance in the course of studies to date
