What is the degree program about?

The teaching degree program is the first step on the way to becoming a teacher. It is a scientific course of studies that prepares you professionally and theoretically for the various aspects of your later professional life.

As a teacher at Mittelschule, you will later teach many subjects in one class. In addition to a major subject in which you will acquire a broad and in-depth specialized knowledge, you will therefore deal with teaching and learning in several subjects during your studies in order to be broadly positioned.

In addition, during your studies you will deal with topics that are particularly important at Mittelschule. These include aspects of vocational orientation and preparation as well as the role as a learning facilitator and educator over a longer period of time.

Below you will see in more details which sub-areas you can expect in your studies.

The program also prepares you for the First State Examination (Staatsexamen), which concludes the program. After the studies, the preparatory service follows, also called Referendariat. There you will be prepared practically for your work as a teacher.
