What is the degree program about?
International Business Studies is a modern Master’s degree program that provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the complexity of international business. Students acquire the skills they need to succeed in an international environment. Special attention is given to the variety of approaches that firms choose to adapt their international operations to the diversity of laws, business practices, and cultures across the globe. Throughout the degree program, students develop essential communication and intercultural skills. A range of business language courses reflects the international focus of the degree program and prepares students for a successful career in an international setting.

The degree program consists of 120 ECTS credits leading to a Master’s degree (M. Sc.) and can be completed in two years. Students take 60 ECTS in compulsory modules and 30 ECTS of elective modules and complete their Master’s thesis. Practical elements include company visits, as well as lectures and workshops with executives from leading companies. Students who wish to benefit from the university’s extensive network of international partner universities may study abroad for up to two semesters. The language of instruction is English.

The degree program is designed for outstanding and motivated students who have successfully completed:
- a Bachelor’s degree in International Business, Business Administration, Management or a related subject, or a Bachelor’s degree in another field, but with sufficient knowledge of international business,
- an internationally accredited English language proficiency test like TOEFL or IELTS, or who are a native speaker from an English-speaking country,
- their respective Bachelor’s degree with an outstanding GPA,
- one or multiple abroad stays in foreign countries for work or studies.

The degree program is designed to give students a deep insight and profound knowledge in the field of International Business and enables them to act independently in a global business setting. The Master in International Business Studies qualifies students to work in companies, institutions or associations operating internationally. Application
To be enclosed in the application:
- Curriculum vitae including passport photo (2 pages max.)
- Certificate of Bachelor’s degree (if you have not received your Bachelor’s certificate by the day of application, please send in the most recent transcript of records)
- Transcript of university records. The transcript should clearly state the courses you have taken and the grades you have achieved. Please also attach an explanation of the grading system used if it is not clearly stated in the transcript. Please make sure to mark the courses in the areas “business/business administration” and “statistics/econometrics/mathematics” in your transcript.
- High school graduation certificate (“international baccalaureate” or “Abitur”) and transcript
- Certificate of English language proficiency (required scores see below)
- Certificates of proficiency in further foreign languages, if applicable
- Proof of experience abroad, e.g. an internship certificate, copy of registration card, scholarship, transcript, etc.
- Your application video in a common format, e.g. MP4 (more information can be found below under the section ‘selection criteria’)
- Applicants from China, India, Mongolia, and Vietnam will have to include APS certification
Applicants from Germany are allowed to hand in their degree certificates and transcripts as a simple copy.
Applicants from outside Germany are required to submit certified copies. All required documents must be submitted in German or English. If your documents were issued in a different language, please have them professionally translated. All translations of the required documents have to be made by an official translator and must bear the signature and stamp of the translator. If the required enclosures are submitted as photocopies, they have to be officially certified copies. Please read these guidelines on certification and translation of documents.
Authenticity of all submitted documents will be examined by the university when the application is received. If you submit any counterfeit documents, your application will be disqualified. Also, if you are granted admission, you are required to verify all information given in your application form and photocopied attachments by presenting the original documents upon enrolment (e.g., degree certificate, transcript of university records).

English language proficiency is to be verified by one of the documents listed below:
- TOEFL-Test with a minimum score of 100+ (iBT). The University of Erlangen-Nürnberg TOEFL code is 8265 (please add the name of the Master’s degree program “International Business Studies”).
- IELTS test with a minimum score of 7.0
- or equivalent (English-speaking Bachelor’s degree in US, UK, IRE, CAN, AUS, NZL)
Test results can be sent directly to wiwi-mibs@fau.de by June 30 of each year if the test takes longer.
A basic knowledge of German is recommended but not obligatory for application.

Selection criteria
Admission to the Master’s degree program in International Business Studies is based on the following criteria:
Obligatory:
- Bachelor’s degree in International Business, Business Administration, Management, Economics or a related subject, and the respective, individual GPA in this degree
- Knowledge of business/business administration pertinent to the degree program (at least 30 ECTS)
- Knowledge of statistics/econometrics/mathematics pertinent to the degree program (at least 5 ECTS)
- English language proficiency (at least TOEFL 100, IELTS 7.0)
- Relevant experience abroad (at least three months outside of your home country)
- Introductory video: Applicants must upload and hand in an application video introducing themselves and stating why they are suitable candidates for the MIBS program
Optional:
- Knowledge of languages other than English, German, and mother tongue
- Knowledge of the German language (at least A1)
Application video information:
Your application video should convey who you are as a person and why you are a suitable candidate to study the MIBS. You should focus on your personal qualifications and interests, and what you could learn from the program. There are no guiding questions or such and you are completely free to make the video your own! It should not exceed or fall short of the 1 minute and 30 seconds we request. Next to English, also sentences from other languages can be used if they are subtitled. Be creative! The outfit – be it a suit or sports jersey – is fully up to you.
The video has to be uploaded on the Online Application Portal CAMPO. No exceptions can be made. Applications without a video will be rejected.
