Offices of Doctoral Affairs, doctoral titles and doctoral degree regulations

The Offices of Doctoral Affairs at the faculties and schools have specific responsibilities including:

The application of the relevant doctoral degree regulations
The admission of doctoral candidates
The recognition of non-German degrees and degrees in non-subject-specific fields in connection with the admission of candidates (equivalence reviews)
The initiation and management of the doctorate procedure

As is the case at most German universities, FAU awards different doctoral degrees in different faculties and subjects. FAU’s general doctoral degree regulations and the faculties’ and schools’ doctoral degree regulations must be adhered to in order to obtain a doctoral degree.

We recommend that the doctoral candidate and their supervisor sign a supervision agreement. Further information on the supervision agreement and templates can be found on our websites.

If you decide to end your doctoral degree before graduation, please complete and return the de-registration form to the Office of Doctoral Affairs or the Graduate Centre.
