Checklist for starting your studies
What to do before lectures start
Once you have received your activation letter by post, please activate your account in the Identity Management Portal (IdM Portal). You will need your IdM account for various purposes throughout your studies.
After activating your account, please validate your personal email address and your FAU mailbox in the IdM portal under Requests/Tasks.
Important: You must read your emails from the University. They give you important information about examination dates, re-registration dates or important information from the Executive Board. You can also set up email forwarding to your private email address.
Course information
Have you
- looked closely at and worked through the websites of your degree program/institute?
- read the Degree program and examination regulations?
- looked at the course catalog on campo? Created your schedule?
- saved the dates of the introductory events (and possibly registered for them)?
FAUcard and Identity Management (IdM)
University Library (UB)
- activated the library function on your FAUcard? (via IdM portal)
- familiarized yourself with library services?
- reserved a space on the library courses in English?
FAU email
- set up your email address? (via IdM portal)
- If necessary: set up email forwarding to private email address
- set up Internet access via RRZE and activated your user number? (via IdM portal)
When moving
- added your nameplate to the mailbox?
- entered your new address in campo?
- registered your main address at the residents’ registration office (Einwohnermeldeamt)?
