With the EU project IMMEDIATE, an international team of researchers now hopes to pinpoint the key factors for chronic inflammation and develop individual prevention strategies using AI.
On March 1, 2023, at 4 p.m. the PACT4Ukraine Project in collaboration with Ukrainian and European scientists and experts will organize an open discussion «Year of full-scale war: conclusions, scenarios, forecasts» via Zoom.
What does the ideal microbiome look like? And what influence do quintillions of invisible organisms have on human health and disease? This is to be the focus of a new institute at Universitätsklinikum Erlangen: the Department of Microbiome Research led by Prof. Dr. Stephan P. Rosshart.
Universitätsklinikum Erlangen is the first in the world to use CAR T-cells to successfully treat a patient suffering from a severe case of muscle inflammation (myositis). The disease is triggered by a malfunction in the immune system that leads to inflammation of the muscles and the risk of developing a very severe form of the disease is high.
Christopher Eichler and his team are researching the future of quantum computing. At the same time, he is speaker for the QuMeCo project, which represents FAU in the Munich Quantum Valley.
To put the focus on all the people who shape, change and breathe new life into FAU every day, FAU’s motto for 2023 is going to be “Together”. Would you like to highlight a project, collaboration or the achievements of someone special? Or would you just like to help? Get in touch with us.
Quantum computers could double the computing power of today’s supercomputers. But how far away are they from becoming reality? What can we expect in the coming years? We spoke with Prof. Dr. Michael J. Hartmann, Chair of Theoretical Physics.
Dixie Lee Bryant studied at MIT before becoming the first woman to receive a doctoral degree at FAU, in 1904. She left everything behind in the States to pursue her academic career, coming to Germany and enrolling at FAU for physics, geology and botanics. FAU has now released a brief video in commemoration of our alumna on the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science on February 11.
It is a feather in the cap for outstanding research at the Department of Artificial Intelligence in Biomedical Engineering at FAU: The European Research Council (ERC) has awarded a Consolidator Grant to Prof. Dr. Bernhard Kainz. The professor of Image Data Exploration and Analysis has received the most prestigious research funding award available throughout the whole of Europe for a project focusing on automated medical image analysis.
