The symposium "Diversity in physics for the diversity of physics -Erlangen", DIPHER 22 for short, took place for the first time. The organisers had set themselves the goal of reflecting the professional diversity of physics at FAU through lectures on gender and diversity in the natural sciences, especially physics.

Acceptor layers made of oligomers can increase the performance of organic solar cells and ensure a long operating life at the same time. This is the result of laboratory experiments conducted by materials scientists at FAU. Organic solar cells are less complex to manufacture than silicon modules and are considerably more versatile as they can be flexible and transparent.

Trailblazers, pioneers, and clever thinkers who drive the world forward and shape the future with their ideas and inventions. There is no shortage of such people at FAU, whether students, young researchers, professors or alumni. The celebration for FAU’s 279th anniversary on November 4 was an opportunity to shine a spotlight on people like this and their groundbreaking ideas.

The new research building of the Erlangen Center for Astroparticle Physics (ECAP) is now complete. The official inaugural ceremony was attended by the Bavarian science minister Markus Blume and the Bavarian Minister of the Interior Joachim Herrmann.

Where is FAU heading in the coming years? Not one, but two Bavarian ministers – science minister Markus Blume, and Minister of the Interior Joachim Hermann – answered questions posed by science and education journalist Jan-Martin Wiarda as well as students and staff in a discussion panel with FAU President Prof. Dr. Joachim Hornegger.

A star in the Columba constellation, approximately 900 light years away, has been hiding a dark past, as has now been revealed by an international team of researchers led by FAU. The star, that was once the heart of a binary star system, lost its envelope when it engulfed its companion.

FAU has once again performed well in THE subject rankings. This year, for the first time, all 11 of the subjects reviewed made it into the rankings. The best international ranking was obtained by Engineering, coming in at place 102, and 5th in Germany, as was Business and Economics.
