In episode 23, the President visits Prof. Dr. Stephan Rosshart. He holds the Professorship for Microbiomics at FAU.
Prof. Dr. Stephan Rosshart researches the microbiome, in other words microorganisms living in symbiosis with the human body. It plays a crucial role in our health, for example by producing biologically active substances.
The potential lies in unraveling the interactions and developing innovative new medicines as a result, with a virtually unlimited range of uses. The aim is to use this potential to develop revolutionary therapies for human diseases.
Before Stefan Rosshart moved to FAU in 2023, he was in charge of animal husbandry for scientific purposes and the Translational Microbiome Research Laboratory at the Medical Center, University of Freiburg.
Curiosity is his most valuable tool, as biology, human physiology and the human body are like unknown worlds waiting to be explored, like in Star Trek: “To boldly go where no man has gone before!”
