FAU included in the list of the most prestigious universities in the world for the first time

A great achievement! Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) is one of the universities with the best reputations in the world. In the recently published Times Higher Education (THE) World Reputation Ranking, FAU was included in the ranking between places 151 and 200. FAU is not only listed for the very first time as one of the universities with the best reputation in the world, it came in straightaway at place 192 of the 300 most prestigious universities in the world.

THE World Reputation Ranking

THE is one of the largest and most prestigious providers of rankings. The THE World Reputation Ranking has been published since 2011, with a break in 2024. It lists the most prestigious universities, ranking the reputation of the university as a whole, instead of focusing on specific subjects. The result is compiled from three groups of indicators: votes (FAU rank 248), pairwise comparison (FAU rank 151) and voter diversity (FAU rank 236). In a national comparison, FAU is number 15 among the total of 27 German universities listed, even reaching rank 12 in the indicator pairwise comparison. The first indicator assesses the number of votes for high-quality research and teaching, and the second asks voters to consider a wider range of institutions with a high reputation by comparing one university to another. The third indicator is based on the premise that universities which receive votes from a wide range of countries and subject areas have a higher reputation than those which do not.
