Winter semester 2024/25 brings new degree programs and part-time options
New at FAU: Bachelor’s degree programs in Artificial Intelligence and Materials Science and Engineering
Changes are coming to the range of degree programs offered at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU): As well as two new Bachelor’s degree programs, FAU is also offering the option of studying part-time for some degree programs.
Bachelor’s degree program in Artificial Intelligence
One of the new degree programs is the Bachelor’s degree program in Artificial Intelligence, that can be completed as a full-time (6 semesters) or part-time program (12 semesters). The Bachelor’s degree program will be taught in English and cover compulsory modules in mathematics, computer science and AI, incorporating ethical and philosophical aspects. Various compulsory electives will allow students to choose their own area of specialization. The Master’s degree program in Artificial Intelligence is already well established.
Application deadline: July 15 for international students and August 31 for applicants from Germany

The Bachelor’s degree program in AI Materials Science and Engineering (6 semesters) is also being offered for the first time in the coming winter semester and focuses on the materials of the future. The main focus of the degree program lies on materials science and engineering, and computer science, but the curriculum also covers mathematics and the fundamentals of physics. The aim of AI materials science and engineering is to use findings from materials science and engineering in new ways in order to render technology and research more efficient and economic. There are many different possible areas of application, ranging from the production of microchips to creating artificial heart tissue.

As of the winter semester, both Bachelor’s degree program in Computer Science and the Master’s degree program in Management can be studied part time.
The Master’s degree program in Chinese Studies is now called Chinese Studies with an Optional Focus, is taught in English, and also offers the option of part-time study.
For students at the School of Law there is a new additional program Practice-oriented Fundamentals of Business Administration.
The Master’s degree program in Technical Vocational Education and Training is now offering an additional specialization thanks to a new collaboration with TH Nürnberg. In future, students will now be able to choose between Metal Technology, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, and the new option Construction Engineering. This means that graduates of the Bachelor’s degree program in Engineering Education (Construction Engineering) from TH Nürnberg or a related degree program will also be eligible for admission to the Master’s degree program at FAU.
