Meeting with Prof. Dr. Frederike Zunke at the Uniklinikum Erlangen
Each semester, FAU president Prof. Dr. Joachim Hornegger sets out to visit professors who have just recently joined FAU. At their respective institutes, he gets to know them better as they talk about their research and share what is important to them.
This series brings a brief introduction of the researcher and allows a peek into such visit by the president.
In episode 5, the president visits Prof. Dr. Friederike Zunke. She holds the professorship for Translational Neuroscience, and is the deputy director for molecular neurology at the Uniklinikum Erlangen.

Friederike Zunke explores the molecular mechanisms in neurodegenerative diseases, focusing specifically on the decomposition of falsely folded proteins within brain cells.

She is mainly interested in simulating disease mechanisms in the lab to better understand their root cause. Insights here allow for new therapeutic approaches to be developed.
