Visiting the Heisenberg professorship for neuro immunology
Each semester, FAU president Prof. Dr. Joachim Hornegger sets out to visit professors who have just recently joined FAU. At their respective institutes, he gets to know them better as they talk about their research and share what is important to them.
This series brings a brief introduction of the researcher and allows a peek into such visit by the president.
In episode 4, the president visits Prof. Dr. Veith Rothhammer. He holds the Heisenberg professorship for neuro immunology and is Chief Medical Officer at the Chair for Neurology.
Veith Rothhammer researches autoimmune diseases of the central nervous system with an emphasis on multiple sclerosis.
He is focusing on certain cells in the brain and in the spinal cord which effect the phases of MS that are hard to treat.
Bevor coming to FAU, he did his research at the clinic for neurology of the Technical University of Munich.
His most important tool as a professor is his Sein wichtigstes Professorenutensil ist sein reflex hammer. As a youth, he was torn between studying medicine and ancient languages such as Latin.
