Now New: The FAU Community App (Public Beta)

Searching for former fellow students, making new professional contacts, joining groups or simply staying up to date on news from FAU – from now on, all of this is also possible on the go: With the FAU Community App, networkers can access portal content even faster via their smartphone.

The FAU Community portal is where all members of the FAU family network. Regardless of which discipline or field of work they belong to – alumni, researchers, students, employees and supporters of FAU can enter into exchange here and use the numerous functions of the FAU Community.

What can the app do?

Exchange information in live chat, receive notifications directly on your smartphone, “like” posts and comments, transfer dates into your own calendar, use the FAU Alumni Card as an ID card, and much more. The FAU Community App reproduces the content of the desktop version one-to-one, but with additional interactive functions and, of course, in a mobile-friendly display. All of this, as usual, in German and English. As a so-called Progressive Web App (PWA), the mobile FAU Community can be used when users are connected to the Internet.

Public Beta – what does that mean?

Currently, the public beta version of the FAU Community app is available. This means that it is still in its “infancy” and will continuously be improved.  The Alumni Management team is therefore happy to receive suggestions and tips.

Who benefits from the FAU Community?

Originally launched in 2016 as a pure alumni portal, the FAU Community has since become a meeting place for the entire FAU Family and its supporters, a place that facilitates a lively, cross-generational exchange.

Alumni are also part of the “FAU Alumni Network” subgroup, where they can obtain information about special offers for alumni – from an e-mail box for alumni to discounts on continuing academic education.

Students can make valuable contacts for starting their careers already during their studies and form their own groups within the FAU Community.

FAU employees use the FAU Community, for example, by publishing their own events in the calendar, sharing information with their target group in one of the numerous thematic groups or by opening their own groups, for example, to stay in touch with graduates from a particular degree program.

Researchers can expand their network at FAU, find out about the latest research news, search for participants for scientific studies, set up groups with other scientists and enjoy all the other benefits of the portal.

Sponsors stay in touch with scholarship holders, interact with alumni, researchers and employees, and regularly receive top news and event tips from their FAU.

How does the FAU Community App get onto the smartphone?

The FAU Community Web App is installed via the address www.community.fau.de/en – depending on the browser, automatically by clicking on the button at the top of the screen or manually via the browser menu, using the “add to home screen” function.
