Playfully gain insights into the work of the UN and improve your interdisciplinary skills

Come to New York City to participate in a simulation game of the Model UN in New York City. Students from all over the globe get together here every year to slip into the role of the chief negotiator during the National Model United Nations, including FAU’s delegation FAUMUN. If you want to join our delegation for 2024, you can send in your application until August 1st, 2023.

What is FAUMUN all about?

How does the UN work? What is the role and responsibility of a diplomat? How do states solve current crises? If the answers to these questions are of interest to you, FAUMUN is the perfect project for you! Students take on the role of diplomats and work out solutions for current topics from the perspective of a certain country. During the upcoming winter semester, we will prepare for the world’s biggest model UN conference in New York City, NMUN, which will take place end of March/beginning of April of 2024. Participants are estimated to be around 5000 students from around the globe. Preparations include speech and negotiation training as well as learning about the UN’s mode of operation, current topics and issues concerning the regions of Erlangen, Nürnberg and Munich. A prep week in Berlin will allow the delegation to meet professional diplomats and gain insights into the state they will be representing.

This is an interdisciplinary project that will be held in English. Therefore, all you need to bring aside from a confirmation of your enrollment at FAU and interest in international relations is a good command of the English language. You do not need to know anything about the UN in advance.
