Among the top 16 percent of universities worldwide
FAU climbs 100 places in the QS World University Ranking
FAU made some impressive gains in this year’s QS World University Ranking as it climbed more than 100 places and is now 229th out of 1503 universities. This means FAU is among the top 16 percent of all universities worldwide.
Excellent ranking for citations worldwide
Specifically, the University improved its performance in the following categories: “Academic Reputation”, “International Students” and “Citations per Faculty”. FAU even achieved 48th place in the world for “Citations per Faculty”. The University also performed well with the newly-introduced categories “International Research Network (IRN)” and “Sustainability” with 172nd and 207th place respectively.
National top positions for citations and sustainability
In a national comparison, FAU ranks 12th and thus moved up 6 places compared with last year’s results. It performed particularly well in the “Citations per Faculty” category, where it ranks first place, and for “Sustainability” (3rd) and “International Students” (10th place).
New indicators and weightings for 2023
The 20th edition of the QS World University Rankings saw not only the introduction of three new indicators – “Sustainability”, “Employability” and “International Research Network” – but also the adjustment of the weightings of existing indicators (more information on the methodology of the ranking is available on the QS support page). 1503 of the 2963 evaluated universities were listed in the ranking, of which 50 were in Germany.
