New degree programs at FAU for winter semester 2023/24
Autonomous systems, artificial intelligence and AI for lawyers
There are around 270 degree programs to choose from at FAU, and eight brand new programs are starting in winter semester 2023/24. These programs include Autonomy Technologies, Law and Computer Science as well as a completely revised Book Studies degree program, which is now called Textual Studies and Digital Transformation.
Autonomy Technologies (BSc and MSc)
Students can enroll for a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in “Autonomy Technologies” and study a unique combination of (electronic) engineering and computer science. Both programs are taught entirely in English and qualify graduates for jobs in different sectors of industry, such as the automotive, automation and robotics industries and communications or industrial services.

Law and Information Technology (LL.M.)
Also new: A Master of Law (LL.M.) Law and Information Technology. This advanced two-semester program for graduates and those who have passed the first State Examination in Law addresses the needs of future legal professionals as knowledge of IT and artificial intelligence are essential in law even today.

Textual Studies and Digital Transformation (MA)
The Master’s degree program previously known as Book Studies has been completely revised and is now called Textual Studies and Digital Transformation. The program investigates communicative processes that are based on text-based media. These media not only include printed media such as books, newspapers and magazines, but also electronic media such as e-books, apps and blogs.

Learning Design – Digital Transformation in Education (MA)
The Master’s degree program “Learning Design – Digital Transformation in Education” is also starting this winter semester. The program deals with the future of teaching and education in universities and adult and further education with regard to teaching methods, media and technology. The program uses a theoretical and developmental approach to teach students how to design teaching formats.

- A new online degree program for professional development taught in English called Sustainability Management that concludes in an MBA has been set up that is aimed at Siemens employees in particular.
- The Master’s degree in Management is completely revising its curriculum and changing the teaching language. As of winter semester 2023/24, students can study the program entirely in English, entirely in German or in a mixture of both.
- A new specialization called “Sustainability” has been added to the Master’s degree program in Chemical Engineering – Sustainable Chemical Technologies.
- Some language modules in the two-subject Bachelor’s degree Japanese Studies have been replaced with new cultural studies modules. In addition, students will be able to study the Master’s degree in Digital Japanese Studies part-time.
