Universitätsklinikum Erlangen is in the top 100 of the World’s Best Hospitals
UKER improves five places in 2023
In the past three years of the pandemic, hospitals and their staff have constantly needed to adapt quickly to ever-changing circumstances and countless challenges. Despite these turbulent times, Universitätsklinikum Erlangen (UKER) has maintained its position in the top 100 of the World’s Best Hospitals ranking in 2023. This year, in comparison to 2022, UKER even managed to improve its position by five places (from 99 up to 94). UKER’s excellent position was recognized in the fifth annual listing of the “World’s Best Hospitals” for 2023, compiled by Newsweek in partnership with Statista.
The World’s Best Hospitals are chosen from the top 250 in each participating country, with a total of 2300 hospitals from 28 countries evaluated in the ranking. In Bavaria, three hospitals achieved a place in the top 100 of the World’s Best Hospitals this year (Universitätsklinikum Erlangen, rank 94, LMU Klinikum, rank 31, Klinikum rechts der Isar, Technischen Universität München, rank 20). Nine other hospitals in Germany also reached the top 100. At the international level, the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, USA held its position at the top of the ranking. In Germany, Charité university hospital in Berlin achieved first place.
Every year, the ranking evaluates hospitals based on the recommendations of medical experts, patient satisfaction surveys and quality indicators on patient safety, hygiene measures and treatment. For the first time this year, hospitals were surveyed regarding their PROMs implementation status. PROMs are standardized, validated questionnaires completed by patients to measure their perception of their functional well-being and quality of life Focusing on these metrics emphasizes patient care and has an important role in increasing the quality of the world’s hospitals.
