Among the top 200 in the world

FAU gehört im THE-Ranking zu den 200 besten Unis weltweit

FAU retains its place among the best 200 universities in the world in the annual THE World University Rankings for 2023. Over 1,200 universities across the globe were assessed, with FAU finishing 196th, moving up one place from the year before. Compared to other German universities, FAU came in 22nd.

FAU once more proved its strength in various areas of relevance to the ranking. FAU improved particularly in the area of industry income, moving up 22 positions on an international level to achieve an excellent 63rd place. FAU also managed to improve by six places in the area of research and now ranks 150th in the list of top research universities in the world. In the national ranking, FAU comes in at place eight and 19 for these categories.

About the THE ranking

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings have been published annually since 2004. They are compiled in collaboration with Elsevier and count as one of the most influential international university rankings beside the QS World University Ranking and the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU). In the current edition, more than 1600 universities were evaluated based on 13 indicators relevant to teaching, research, citations, industry income and international outlook.
