Young diplomats wanted: Join FAUMUN!
Discussing current political and social issues with delegates from other countries at United Nations headquarters and deciding on draft resolutions – this is normally reserved for high-ranking diplomats. At the National Model United Nations (NMUN), students from around the world take on the role of negotiators. FAU’s FAUMUN delegation also participates annually. Those who want to participate can apply by August 1, 2021
What FAUMUN is all about
How does the UN work? How do diplomats behave? How do states solve current crises? If you are interested in these questions, FAUMUN is just the right project for you. Students slip into the role of diplomats and work out solutions to current issues from the perspective of a specific country. The entire winter semester consists of preparation for the world’s largest MUN conference in New York, NMUN, which takes place at the end of March and is attended by approximately 5000 students from all over the world. The preparation consists of speech training, negotiation training, the acquisition of in-depth knowledge about the functioning of the UN and current issues as well as several practice simulations in Erlangen, Munich and Nuremberg. A preparation week in Berlin allows contact with real diplomats and provides insights into the country to be represented.
The project takes place in English and is interdisciplinary. Thus, the only requirements are a good knowledge of English, enrolment in a degree program at FAU and an interest in international relations. Previous knowledge about the UN is not necessary.
