Now available to download: The new semester ticket
Download it now to make sure you are mobile in the VGN network from 1 October
The semester tickets for the winter semester have arrived (valid from 1 October 2019). The cost of the basic ticket is paid when you re-register (or when first-year students enrol) as it is covered by your student contribution. All you need to do now is download or print the basic ticket. The (optional) additional ticket costs 213 euros and can be ordered directly.
Overview: How does the semester ticket work?
A semester ticket is made up of two parts. Firstly, students at FAU must pay a contribution for which they receive the basic ticket that entitles them to limited use of VGN’s public transport network, and secondly, they have the option of buying an additional voluntary ticket that entitles them to unlimited use of the network.
All students purchase the basic ticket automatically when they enrol or re-register for the semester. This ticket is valid for 6 months for the entire VGN public transport network from Monday to Friday from 7 pm until 6 am the following day and around the clock on weekends and public holidays. Students also have the option of purchasing the additional ticket, which is also valid for 6 months but entitles holders to travel at any time of day, 7 days a week. This gives ticket holders unlimited mobility in the VGN network for six months.
New: Take your bike with you
A new feature for the coming winter semester is that students can now take their bikes with them free of charge. During the validity period of the basic ticket, students can take their bikes with them on the underground, and in trams and buses in zones 100, 200, 300, and 400 (Nuremberg, Fürth and Erlangen). This is being introduced for one year on a trial basis. This does not apply to travel by train (S-Bahn and Regionalbahn trains).
Bear this in mind before the ticket inspector comes!
The semester tickets are available in the ‘VGN Fahrplan & Tickets’ app and in the VGN online shop, where the basic and additional ticket are available for printing or as a mobile phone ticket (there is no additional charge for the basic ticket as it is covered by your student contribution when you re-register or enrol). You can also purchase the additional ticket from VAG, infra, ESTW and DB ticket machines or in OVF buses. For more information on the tickets, visit: vgn.de/semesterticket
