Faculty of Engineering presents electric motorcycle ElMo
Experience electrocross
ElMo is the nickname for the electric motocross motorcycle that students at FAU’s Faculty of Engineering have designed and built in collaboration with Fraunhofer IISB. The project team will be presenting the motorcycle to the public starting at 9.30 a.m. on 21 October at Schottkystraße 10, Erlangen. In addition to the motorcycle’s first official drive, there will be tours of the workshop and testing facilities, as well as presentations about electromobility and the individual components of the electric motorcycle, such as the energy storage system and the motor.
FAU students have already built an electric car as part of the project TechFak EcoCar. ElMo is now the second fully electric vehicle to be developed in the project. Since the beginning of 2014, mechanical engineers, electronic engineers, mechatronics specialists and industrial engineers at FAU have developed the plans for the motorcycle, secured sponsors and constructed the individual components in order to make their vision a reality. The result is a fully electric motocross motorcycle with a top speed of around 130 kmph and a battery that can last for 40 minutes when it is driven by an experienced driver.
